Versace started its glamourous fragrance line inspired by crystals in 2014 with Crystal Noir perfume. In 2006 he launched the lighter and fruitier Bright Cristal, followed in 2011 by ”a crystal that turns into a diamond’’ named Yellow Diamond. The fragrance is from the citrus- floral category and the campaign advertising is excellently represented by the Australian model Abbey Lee, in a spot shot by Mario Testino in the sublime setting of the City of Lights – Paris.
Donatella Versace’s words about the fragrance were: “The color yellow recalls the brightness, sensuality, and great energy of this fragrance, able to depict and emphasize the charm and femininity of a woman”.
Yellow Diamond Qualities
The conception that characterizes the opening of Yellow Diamond is a bright explosion. It opens with luminous freshness of lemon, bergamot, neroli and pear sorbet. The grace of the unique flowers from the heart features airy orange blossom, freesia, mimosa and water lily. The base is made of amber, precious musk and guaiac wood. Wood notes do not overload the wearer.
- Top notes: pineapple, green accord, mandarin orange, bergamot, cardamom & lemon
- Middle notes: nutmeg, violet, orris root, jasmine, Lily-of-the-Valley & rose
- Base notes: sandalwood, green accord amber, musk, cedar & oakmoss
The dry-down retains the lemony scent and adds a soft spicy warmth. It heads slightly in the direction of Bright Crystal with it’s light-floral and lemon base but doesn’t cross the line becoming astringent and powdery. It is more a fresh scent with floral-fruity notes that fit the stylish and energetic woman. The sensual composition of the perfume embodies natural femininity, self-confidence and the harmony of an irresistible fragrance.
Yellow is the perfect word to describe this- young, bright, happy, fresh. The perfect summer scent, good for hotter days because it’s not cloying nor too sweet. It can be a good choice as a everyday wear, for work, out with friends, school.
The bad thing is it fades very quickly. Projection wise, it starts out as a moderate but is mostly a light fragrance. I don’t mean to say that it is weak or anything like that but it isn’t something that will absolutely envelop you. The longevity is decent but not crazy, I found that I got about 6 hours on my skin, where the perfume was noticeable.
This might not be the most unique fragrance but it’s certainly cheerful and fresh with an amount of elegance in it. Wearing it is like drinking lemonade in a botanical garden on a summer afternoon. The bottle is shaped like the previous editions of the collection, extravagant but commercial, colored in yellow, while its box its decorated with baroque ornaments. The fragrance is available as 50 and 90 ml Eau de Toilette with deodorant and body lotion.
