L’eau d’Issey is an aquatic floral fragrance who was launched in 1992. The idea for this scent, whose name means ‘water’, was conceived of by Miyake, who saw water as both the greatest material, as well as the greatest source for inspiration. The perfumer behind the fragrance is Jacques Cavallier. The Miyake Design Studio supervised the creative direction for the fragrance at every stage, from the initial concept to bottle design, naming, graphics, package design, marketing tools, and publicity.
Issey Miyake said: ‘’For sure L’eau De Issey is a unique fragrance because it evokes the smell of a woman who barely splashed the water on her clean body. And this is the most beautiful scent in the world.’’
L’eau d’Issey Qualities
L’eau d’Issey opens with aqua notes and scents of rose water, cyclamen, freesia, and lotus. The water notes remind one of the early-morning dew softly coating the leaves of new blooms. When the heart makes an appearance, it is with the accords of white lilies, fresh peonies, and carnations. This light floral combination is both clean and refreshing like a fresh spring rain. The heart continues to shine for more than four hours before the dry-down period begins. Its background is accompanying by the classic notes of wood, amber, and musk.
- Top notes:(Persian violet), rose water, melon, freesia, lotus flower, rose and calone.
- Middle notes: carnation, lily, water peony and lily of the valley
- Base notes: Exotic woods, nards, amber, sandalwood, musk, osmanthus (fragrant olive tree) and cedar.
The result is 90% white flowers, a drop of melon and a classic woody base embodying a perfume that will give you a distinct personality. Despite all its fresh and light notes, L’eau d’Issey is surprisingly tenacious on the skin. At the end of a busy day, you can still smell on your wrists the full circle of the perfume.
My first thoughts about L’eau d’Issey is that is fresh, feminine and pleasant to be around. Is not overpowering even if you are spraying on too much. Though this fragrance does not play nicely on everyone, it is absolutely beautiful on skin that suits it. It is a perfect perfume for spring and summer and great for work or other daytime activities, weekends.
If you are looking for a super mild scent you can not go wrong with this one. The sillage starts out good, then reduces to average. Longevity is approximately 5-6 hours on my skin. The packaging is a plain white box with a silver label stating the contents. The bottle is simple and delicate, a slim cone of glass covered with a matte coal and a drop of silver. It was designed by Miyake himself and is based on the view of the moon behind the Eiffel Tower from his Paris apartment. However, for women who love the smell of spring and summer, this fragrance is a perfect choice.
